    Calling All Grilled Cheese Fans

The search begins for Canada’s ultimate grilled cheese creation

Montreal, June 16, 2010 – Dairy Farmers of Canada is calling out to all grilled cheese lovers from across Canada to put their own spin on this classic comfort food in the All You Need Is Cheese Challenge. Canadians can showcase their grilled cheese making skills by becoming a fan of the All You Need Is Cheese Facebook page and downloading the All You Need Is Cheese Challenge contest application. The contest can also be accessed at http://www.allyouneedischeese.ca.

“Grilled cheese sandwiches stir up deep emotions in the hearts and stomachs of Canadians,” says Solange Heiss, assistant director, marketing and nutrition communications, Dairy Farmers of Canada. “Since the contest began on May 31st, we’ve already received hundreds of mouth-watering spins showing how Canadian cheese can be used in so many different ways to make the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich.”

After joining the All You Need Is Cheese Challenge, people can participate in the contest in two ways: by submitting their own grilled cheese sandwich recipe using their favourite Canadian cheese, and by ‘loving’ other participants’ grilled cheese recipes.

Three spin entries will be chosen as finalists and their recipes will be featured at The Grate Canadian Grilled Cheese Cook-Off at the Canadian National Exhibition on August 24th. At this event, these three recipes will be tasted and judged by a jury made up of some of Canada’s most famous foodies. The grand prize is a family trip to Quebec City, which includes a guided and gastronomical tour of the city and an evening in a well-known traditional restaurant.

“If you think you know the perfect combination of grilled cheese ingredients, then enter your spin,” says Heiss. “Our judges will choose the winning recipe based on how it is prepared, originality and of course, taste appeal. Your recipe could become Canada’s number one grilled cheese sandwich.”

The Grate Canadian Grilled Cheese Cook-Off will not only decide the winner of the All You Need Is Cheese Challenge, but it will also see top chefs from across Canada flexing their grilled cheese making might in an all out grilled cheese throw-down.

For the top three most ‘loved’ spins, participants will win a set of All You Need Is Cheese kitchenware and accessories. Weekly participation prizes will also be given away.

“Whether you like your grilled cheese simple or you prefer a more decadent recipe, what makes a grilled cheese special is what you find in the middle — the great taste of Canadian cheese made from 100% Canadian milk,” says Heiss.
